Counties, and the towns within them, are unique. They have their own character, their own goals, their own concerns. Officials are known to the voters, and vice versa: we are all in the phone book. Local issues can be heard, approved, or blown out of the water, and groused about either way. Counties are attentive to themselves; it is their responsibility. In this land of Jefferson it should be the state’s responsibility to do only what the counties cannot. And it should be the counties’ responsibility to hold close all the powers they have.
As you read this, it may be too late for HB No. 1435. It may have gone through under the radar. Let us hope not. And if it has not, consider a call or an email to your representatives. Tell them to undo this bad piece of bill-writing. Let the county be heard.
