The first of two solo piano recitals this season takes place at The Theatre at Washington, Virginia on j Saturday, February 18 at 8 p.m. when the distinguished American concert pianist Gayle Martin Henry makes her first appearance in Little Washington. The ; «second recital will be a return engagement by the ' Japanese pianist Naoko Takao on April 1.
For the concert on February 18 Ms. Henry has chosen a program which includes a sonata of Beethoven 4the “Pathetique”), three mazurkas and a ballade by ^Chopin, as well as music of Schumann, Liszt, Debussy, and Villa Lobos.
Ms. Henry achieved international prominence as the sole American laureate of the sixth International Tchaikovsky Piano Competition in Moscow, and only the third American woman ever to reach the finals.
Her performances include appearances with the Houston Symphony (since age 12), the Denver Symphony, the Minnesota Orchestra, the California Philharmonic and the Philharmonia Virtuosi of New York. Her concerts include performances at Alice Tully Hall in New York, at the White House and at the Phillips Collection in Washington, DC and numerous other appearances throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, England, Austria, Poland, Israel, Russia, Mexico and China.
