is a bill — HB 1435 - running rather close to the ground in the state legislature that would remove certain agriculture-production activities in agricultural districts from present requirements for county special use exceptions. On the face of it/ it sounds like a benign, “why worry” situation.
But its back-story needs to be told. The bill was written, as I’ve been told, at the behest of a local winery, just over the Rappahannock line in Fauquier County. For years the young scion of the winery’s founding family has sought to overlay wine-selling with entertainment, with so-called celebratory events of all kinds, often heralded in the beginning by helicopter flights and balloon launchings, and with boomingly loud outdoor amplified music which found its way over the hills and up the valleys. Neighbors noticed this change in the winery’s character immediately.
