Never has Rappahannock County High School head girls basketball coach Rhonda Jenkins so looked forward to the Group A Bull Run District tournament. “We’ve got confidence in ourselves,’’ said Jenkins, whose Lady Panthers will open the district tournament Monday night, most likely at Madison County. We’re scoring more. We’re holding opponents from Scoring.” District athletic directors held their seeding meeting for the tournament Wednesday night, too late for this edition of the newspaper. But regardless of the opponent, Rappahannock County is playing with the type of confidence that could make some teams a bit uneasy this post season. The Lady Panthers are enjoying one of the better seasons in many seasons, as they have recorded five wins. One of those wins came over Madison earlier in the season. “It’s been a long time since this team has won five games,” Jenkins said, adding “probably since I played there in 1979.” Rappahannock is averaging 40 points per game, up from the 34-point mark that it had earlier in the season. Anytime a girls varsity basketball team scores 40 to 50 points per game against a district opponent, it has an opportunity to post a win, Jenkins pointed out. Senior Courtney Hutchin
