“We offer services to everybody,” stressed Day. “Some of our biggest business is to homeowners who want to add a deck to their house - probably 75-80 percent.

“People can come in, bring us their drawings or plans, and we can sit and figure out what they are going to need, explain some of the newest products, and give them advice,” offered Day. “Each of us has an expertise in certain areas,” noted Day. “I know all kinds of lumber...one of my credos is to overbuild..use big headers,” laughed Day who truly enjoys helping people. “I like working with people and helping them choose what’s going to work and what’s not.”

While years in the construction industry has given Day confidence in all things wood, he’s also quick to point out some of the industry’s latest innovations like cement board that is now used for siding or Trex which is a decking and railing product made from recycled and reclaimed wood and plastic. The two combined give you the best of both materials.

Part of a four person team, Day is eager to point out the strengths of each of his co-workers.

“Barbara comes from a contractors’ family and she is really knowledgeable about doors and windows,” continued Day, “and Mike knows appliances, he’ll help you figure out what you need with the space you have and to be energy efficient.”

“Another thing about Barbara, she puts on a kid’s workshop on the first Saturday of every month,” said Day. “Even if it’s her day off, she’ll come in for that, she loves it, working with the kids. They’ll build a birdhouse or wooden cars and learn how to use simple tools at the same time.”

While kitchen design and cabinetry has become a mainstay at Home Depot offering a wide selection of designs, woods and colors, tackling even larger projects like putting on a roof is no problem either.

“Come in with your dimensions for a garage,” said Day, “and I’ll factor in three things - span, pitch, and overhang.”

“We don’t supply roof trusses, but we can get them for you, we can act as the middleman and within two hours I can have bids and prices for you.” Once selected, you can have them onsite within a couple of days. They will deliver directly to you, doesn’t have to stop here first.”

“We’re not architects, but you can build a whole house with materials from Home Depot,” said Day who continued to describe some of their ‘install’ programs where a crew will come out to install your windows or new floor or to install a new water heater.
