Pianist Naoko Takao, a native of Japan, has been actively performing as recitalist, orchestral soloist, and chamber musician in the United States, as well as in France, Taiwan, and Japan. She will be returning to Little Washington on Saturday, April 1 to play her third concert here at the Theatre at Washington, Virginia. The concert begins at 8 p.m.
Ms. Takao has chosen a program of music by three towering composers from the nineteenth century’s Romantic Movement: Robert Schumann, Fr6d4ric Chopin and, toward the end of that era, Sergey Rachmaninov.
The sole work by Schumann to be included in the upcoming concert is Davids biindlertanze, which he wrote in 1837. The concert includes three works by Chopin: Barcarole, Op. 60; Mazurka in C-sharp minor, Op. 50, No. 3; and the Polonaise-fantasie, Op. 61. There will be three works by Rachmaninov also: two preludes, in C minor, Op. 23, No. 7 and in D Major, Op, 23, No. 4; and Etude-Tableaux in B minor, Op. 39, No; 4. c
The date of the concert, April 1, marks the birthday of Rachmaninov, who was born in Russia in 1873. Earlier this spring concerts at the Theatre hav« marked the 250th anniversary of the birth of Mozart, and the 350th anniversary of Marais. While not a “milestone” anniversary, it is a happy coincidence that the concert at the Theatre will fall on Rachaminov’s birthday. ,*i;
