Viewtown resident

John Robert Jenkins, 89, of Viewtown, died March 19 at his residence.

He was born November 16, 1916 in Hawlin, VA to the late Herbert Kasper and Ida Elizabeth Burke.

Mr. Jenkins served in the United States Navy from 1935 to 1939 and 1943 to 1944. He retired from the Naval Ordnance Station in Indian Head, MD after 33 years of service, after which he spent his time working for the Viewtown Post Office. He was a member of Forest Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Jenkins enjoyed the outdoors and cherished his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Elizabeth “Betty” Love Jenkins, two sons, John B. Jenkins and his wife, Caren, and Patrick Jenkins and his wife, Betty Lou, and one sister, Ruby Spicer.

Additional survivors include five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
