This year’s banquet included spit-roasted beast and other authentic foods from medieval times prepared by parents and eaten off “trencher boards.” Before the evening was over, the eighth graders had presented a short skit to entertain the Court. They also engaged in a challenging quest/treasure hunt created by the 11th graders, with questions relating to the literature and vocabulary learned during the first half of the academic year.
The most poignant moment of the day occurred when Lady Kathleen (Head of School Kathleen Grove) crowned PamLynn Tucker with the honorary title of “Queen Elizabeth” and announced Mrs. Lynn-Tucker’s plans to retire at the end of the academic year. Mrs. LynnTucker received an extended and enthusiastic ovation for her 35 years of service to Wakefield Country Day School. The “Queen” then gave brief remarks, wiyly observing that the most thunderous applause seemed to have come from the younger students who would not “be subject” to her well known seventh grade British History class. She cautioned them that their celebration might be premature; however, in that Welby Lynn Griffin, another history aficionado with similar high standards, would be replacing her. Mrs. LynnTbcker promised to return for future banquets and other WCDS special occasions.
