Let’s play ball

The day is coming when Rappahannock County High School’s varsity baseball team puts all the pieces together.
Solid pitching. Timely hitting. Strong defense. Good base running.
Pity the opponent that day.
“This team has a good nucleus,” Rappahannock County head coach Jeff Jenkins said. “We just need to get it going.”
The season’s start has been slow for the Panthers, who dropped away contests to Warren County and Luray. Injuries and previous scheduled trips left Jenkins without three starters, juniors Will Miller and Ethan Russell and senior Karl Thornhill. Those inconveniences forced Jenkins to juggle his lineup in early games.
But when most of that Rappahannock lineup is playing, it could be among the best in the Group A Bull Run District.
The Panthers return three, All-District performers in Thornhill, Jason Jenkins and Jacob Dodson.
Thornhill was on a trip and missed the first two games, but Jeff Jenkins expects him to play either right or left field this season. Jason Jenkins, a tall, lanky left-hander, took the loss in Rappahannock’s 2-0 defeat to Warren County. He surrendered two unearned runs in four innings. Jason Jenkins also plays first base and in the outfield. Dodson is Rappahannock’s starting catcher but also can pitch.
“We’ve got some experienced pitching,” Jeff Jenkins added. “No question about that.”
