A sticky morning
March 17: Early Friday morning, staff at Rappahannock County High School arriving for work discovered a sticky situation. Sometime between the closing of RCHS Thursday night and 6:00 a.m. Friday morning, someone had put super glue in the locks of almost every interior lock in the school. The glue made it impossible for teachers to enter their classroom or administrators to enter their offices.
“If whoever did it thought of it as a prank, it was not a very good prank,” said RCHS Principal Roger Mello.
If the goal of the culprits was to delay or cancel classes at RCHS, it was also a failed prank. After trying several solvents without success, the RCHS custodial staff started using propane torches on the locks, melting the glue. By the time students arrived at school, most of the locks were open, and no classes were delayed as a result of the incident. However, the extra man-hours needed to effect the quick repairs are going to cost the Rappahannock County School system, and it is likely that heating the locks could have caused long term damage that will come out of the
