Public hearings
conclude on power line

The public has had their chance to tell the State Corporation Commission what they think about Allegheny Power and Dominion Virginia Power's plan to string more power lines through Rappahannock and other counties in the Piedmont and Shenandoah Valley
Now the power-line proposal becomes a matter to be settled in Richmond.
The final public hearing wrapped up Aug. 16 in Front Royal, concluding eight days of proceedings that included hundreds of speakers and hours of testimony The other three hearings were in Warrenton, Bristow and Winchester during the past four weeks.
Most of the citizens who spoke at the Front Royal hearing oppose the new power lines.
“Nobody was against electricity but almost everyone was against this particular proposal,” said Flint Hill resident Phil Irwin, who spoke in opposition of the power lines.
A similar scene played out at the other baa rings. According to the Piedmont Environmental Council, more than 90 percent of the speakers at tlw four hearing Inrafrinna voiced opposition to the lines.
But Allegheny and Dominion do have some supporters.
