The Atkins and Dodson reunion will be held on Sunday, Aug. 26 at 12 noon at the “Shelter #1, Bing Crosby Stadium” Commerce Avenue & ByPass in Front Royal.

Aug. 26: Free lecture
at Brandy Station
On August 26, the Brandy Station Foundation will have the fifth in the series of Sunday Lectures. The lecture is free and for anyone interested in the history of the U.S. Civil War. The program will start at 2:00 p.m. While free, donations are welcomed and will be used for operation of the Graffiti House. August’s speaker will be Brandy Station historian Joe McKinney who will speak on Confederate general “Wade Hampton,” reportedly the largest landowner in the South with plantations in South' Carolina and Mississippi. When South Carolina seceded Hampton raised a legion of soldiers using personal funds to pay for the rifles for the infantry and guns for the artillery. Joe McKinney lives on the Brandy Station battlefield and is a long-time Civil War historian. A graduate of West Point, he retired as a Lt. Colonel after serving in Vietnam and at the Army’s Command and Staff College at Ft Leavenworth, KS. In 2006 he published the only thorough history of the June 9,1863 Battle of Brandy Station.
