In 1984, Mr. Fort retire and in 1990 moved fro Alexandria to his belov< Hidden Valley Farm Madison County, VA. I taught grassroots lobbying George Washingtr University, and continued be very involved in comm uni affairs, and in state and loc politics. Jim and Cathy al traveled extensively, visitii over forty countries arour the world, from Ireland India, China, Tibet, Eritre and many spots “off the beat< path”.
He served on the board i the Piedmont Environment; Council for many years, as founding director of the Bk Ridge Foothills Conservanc as well as on the boards of se’ eral nonprofit service organ zations in Madisoi Alexandria and Washingtot D.C. A lifelong progressi\ Democrat, he remained polit cally active all his days.
Mr. Fort is survived .by h wife of 56 years, Cathy For and by his three childrc James Jr. of Arlington, V Keith of Chicago, IL ar Catherine Johnston of Fal Church, VA. Jim and Catl also have three grandchild n and many nieces, nephew and close cousins. ;•
