madness
The hairpin turns leading out of Rappahannock County and over the mountains to Shenandoah National Park can be hazardous. This past weekend yet another motorcycle accident claimed another victim. While this young man didn’t live far away, many who come to the county to challenge the roads with their bikes venture here for the adventure. Sadly, their need for speed often proves deadly. • Washington Fire Chief Ann Spieker has seen enough. Once again, she was on the scene to witness yet another young life lost. Sheriff Larry Sherertz has seen enough as well. He’s to the point where, he’d like to see motorcyclists literally escorted on those mountain roads to ensure their safety. There are no easy answers. The autumn season is nearly here and with the colorful and falling leaves, let’s prayer that more bikers won’t be falling with them.
