Intoxicated pedestrian
Robert James Reid, of 188 Fairfield Drive in Warrenton, was charged with being drunk in public on Aug. 16. The 38year-old was jailed at the Rappahannock County Jail after being picked up by Lt. Roger Jenkins on Yancey Road near the entrance to Jenkins Orchard.
A call to the Rappahannock County Sheriffs Office around 5:15 p.m. reported that the man was sitting in a black Nissan on the side of the road. The caller said it was alright for the car to be there, but they didn’t know Reid and suspected that he was drunk.
Mustang hits woman
A 28-year-old Front Royal woman was hit by a green Ford Mustang on Aug. 16 in Flint Hill, according to the RCSO.
The incident happened around 6:15 p.m. in front of the Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Department on Fodderstack Road. Chief Bruce Williams said the woman was treated for bruises at the department, but was not transported to a hospital.
State Trooper Brandon Johnson responded to the scene and charged the driver, Allen Curtis, of 9911 Duncan St. in Fairfax, with reckless driving. The 24-year-old man reportedly backed onto Fodderstack and hit the woman as he accelerated forward.
Fire storm
A fighting storm that swept through Rappahannock County on Friday night and Saturday morning left several fires in its wake. The storm started three brush fires and one electrical fire between roughly 11:40 p.m. and 12:40 a.m.
One tree was struck and burst into flames on F.T. Valley Road and another caught fire on Lee Highway near Massies Comer. Electrical wires came down and started a blaze on Scrabble Road and lightning struck a telephone box on a house on Hunters Road. The tree at Massies Comer reignited around 5 a.m. Saturday.
No buildings were severely damaged in any of the cases, Washington Volunteer Fire and Rescue Chief Ann Spieker said.
Several of the county’s volunteer fire companies responded to the incidents. The storm was most intense around Castleton, Spieker said.
Odd visitors
A woman on Fodderstack Road called the RCSO around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday to report a suspicious event.
She said some men with tattoos were wearing camouflage and sitting in a car in her driveway. A deputy from the sheriff’s office reported to the house, but the men had already left the scene.
Computer snatched
A woman on Kvaraes Lane is missing her white Apple iBook laptop computer after an apparent burglary Sunday evening.
Michelle Almond called the RCSO around 12:30 a.m. on Monday to report the crime. She said she was out of the house since noon and returned home around midnight to discover that Wd^Pomputef was £ohe. The person or persons responsible for the crime broke into the house through the back door.
Almond said one of her neighbors heard a car approach the house around 7:30 or 8 p.m., which is when the burglary is expected to have occurred.
Almond said she bought the $1,200 computer about a year ago. She had moved into the house just one week prior to the incident. Nothing else of consequence was stolen during the burglary.
