at annual camp
for children
with cancer

Volunteerism runs rampant in Rappahannock County and one event that gamers many is the annual Camp Fantastic held in the beautiful 4-H Center in the Blue Ridge Mountains just south of Front Royal.
Many Rappahannock volunteers—along with equally committed staff from Special Love Foundation in Winchester, and doctors and nurses from the National Institutes of Health— came together last Tuesday evening to offer young children with cancer in the Virginia/DC/Maryland area an evening of carefree fun, games, dancing music, and good food.
According to David Smith, the executive director of Special Love—the Winchester-based sponsoring organization, there were close to 200 people at this year’s Camp Fantastic, all dedicated to providing young children with cancer an opportunity to “step back from the seriousness of their disease and enjoy the bonds of friendship with other children who share similar experiences.” In fact, he added, “many children in Camp Fantastic come back in subsequent years as counselors and aides.
