One of the suspects in a July burglary at Trading Post Guns may be indicted next month.
A preliminary hearing for Rebecca Ann Smith was held Tuesday in Rappahannock General District Court. Judge Charles B. Foley considered the evidence against Smith to be sufficient for the case to be sent to a grand jury, which will decide in January whether to indict her.
Smith’s half-brother, Michael Wayne Lewis Jr., allegedly broke into the gun store on U.S. 211 near the Town of Washington and stole some 40 handguns during the night of July 17. Smith was reportedly in the car that brought Lewis to and from the scene. She is charged with conspiring to steal, conspiring to break and enter, breaking and entering and grand larceny of guns.
The main witness used Tuesday was Lewis's former girlfriend, Ashley Jensen. The 18-year-old from Front Royal told the court that she drove Lewis and Smith from Manassas to Rappahannock the night of July 17.
