“We’ve got to work on our offense more,” Hutcheson said. “We’ve got to cut down the turnovers and start swinging the ball more.”
The Lady Panthers had a tough time stopping the duo of Lilly Withers and Ashley Marchi. The two Wakefield seniors combined for 37 of the Owl’s 40 points.
“They’re our seniors. They carry us night in and night out,” Wakefield Coach Paul Sipes said. “We beat a pretty good Rappahannock team. Rappahannock is a physical team and I was worried how girls would respond. Fortunately we played well until the very end.”
Hutcheson finished with a double-double adding 11 rebounds to her 17 points, while Megan Wheatley and Emily Carter pitched in with four points apiece. Noel Johns added two points, five rebounds, and four assists.
The Lady Panthers (1-2) will look to bounce back at this weekend’s Life & Breath Tournament at Wakefield in the Plains.
“We need to play an entire four quarters the way we were are capable of playing,” Hutcheson said. “We’ve got some girls on this team who can shoot, but for some reason we haven’t taken advantage of our ability yet.”
