He said that senior housing in Rappahannock is often poor. Better options exist in surrounding counties, but many elderly refuse to move. And as people age in isolated environments without care, their needs grow, he said.
“I’ve seen a lot of very substandard housing situations,” he said.
Soule recommended the construction of a 6-8 unit singlestory community for elderly residents, which would allow for easy care of the residents. He challenged the audience to think of a way to make it happen.
“How could we do something like that?” he asked.
The Rappahannock Community Housing Partnership expects to complete an analysis of elderly housing needs by the end of January The analysis will complete the initiative’s fourprong assessment of housing needs in Rappahannock.
