Conservation update 40 square miles now easement protected Two conservation easements recorded in late November bring Rappahannock’s countywide total of such protection to 25,773 acres —just over 40 square miles, and 18.9 percent of all privately owned land. First, November 29 saw recordation of what is now the County’s smallest easement: Annette (“Mitzi”) Young’s “Campbell House” in the Washington Historic District on Mt. Salem Avenue, granted to Virginia’s Board of Historic Resources. The easement prohibits subdivision of the properly (less than 1/4 acre) and protects the house itself from alteration or addition.
