Rappahannock County Sheriff' Larry Sherertz said that an arson investigator had inspected the scene at the request of the sheriff's office. He said that firefighters had considered arson a possibility, though Fire Chief Spieker said in an interview that the suspicions, based on tire tracks discovered near the house, were determined to be unfounded.
Sherertz did not have the results of the investigation and was not available for further comment.
Shelley Schlusemever. a representative for the company that insured the. home, said that it would be hard to find the cause of the lire.
‘It's so burnt that it will be very difficult to determine," she said.
In a phone interview on Wednesday she said an inspector for the insurance company had been to the scene but had not found the cause of the fire.
Schlusemever is looking into the extent of the damage. On Friday she said she could not yet put an exact price on the loss.
“More than a half a million." she said.
