Fourteen-year-old Kyndle Turley entered for the fun, glitz and glamour... Rappahannock style. Stacy McPeak, 18, had never been in a pageant and wanted to try a new experience. She was coached by her friend Sarah Elliott who had often been in pageants when she was younger, enjoyed the events and getting in front of people. These young women had entered the Miss Rappahannock Friends category.
The stage decor for the pageanChad a simple elegance, created by Faye Henry. Masters of Ceremony, the Rev. Jennings Hobson III and Dr. Becky Greer, kept the evening flowing smoothly with wit and commentary.
Certified judges volunteered their time to support the event at a professional level. Door prizes, a silent auction and a raffle made the event fun for the audience, while BBQ sandwiches, pizza and dessert kept them fed and happy.
A host of volunteers tended to the details needed to keep a four hour event on track. Ann Leake was typical of the audience members. She said she has come for about 12 years because it is a fun evening and supports the rescue squad.
