Another wedding cake story involves a near disaster with a tractor, hay, and the wind. Faye explains, "This picture is of a cake and wedding we did in a field. This was like when you are going down to Claytor Lake. There was a field of cut hay behind the wedding reception. Now, some farmers came and started raking hay right in the field behind our cake. I said, ‘Let’s put this cake inside.’ They said, ‘No, we want it outside.’ I said, ‘Well, you are going to have hay blowing all over it.’ They said they didn’t care. I did the best I could and left them to the cake and the hay. Like we always do, I left when the cake was ready. But I guess they were happy in spite of the blowing hay.”
Most people don’t let little things like dry grass and wind spoil their wedding day. In fact, Faye and Pam can’t think of any brides that have complained about their cakes. And if you have had the pleasure to see one of their cakes, you completely understand the satisfaction.
Pam recounts, “We had a wedding reception at Randolph Park. It was on a 100 degree hot day. On the way there our cake kind of had a small issue. The bride had asked for a stacked cake. Those can be kind pf hard to do and transport. It had stair steps coming down on each side. v “One layer slid just a little on the way there. It looked like a small landside on the back side. Once there, I used a little extra frosting around the back to make it right, I asked the bride if it was satisfactory, and she said she could not even tell a difference. I could tell a difference, but the bride said, ‘It looks good to me.’"
“Pam does all the frosting," says Faye, “and I do all the baking. She sits right here." Faye points to the end of her kitchen table where she is seated. “Right here in the kitchen we do everything. Pam Just does it. She usually doesn’t look at a picture while she is doing it. She can visualize it and frost it." Pam shares about one of the most memorable wedding cakes they have done, “We did a cake for this one boy at work. The reception was being held at his grandmother's house near Luvs’ Truck Stop. “What was wild is the wedding was on Halloween. All the guests came in costume.
