A number of Rappahannock County. Sheriff's Department, and RCPS employees drive county or school-owned vehicles between work and home.
The RCPS has a practice of not allowing non-resident employees to drive vehicles home.
The head custodian and the HVAC/Maintenance Technician are authorized to drive school vehicles between work and home because they are on call 24-7.
Most RCPS buses are parked at the homes of drivers at night because it is more cost-effective than having the driver pick up
“One year later, what’s going on?”
Wayne Smoot wanted to know who monitors the work (on the aging HVAC systems) and suggested that county inspectors be used to provide quality control for any future work. Even so, he was clearly not happy with the board and stated that, “we need new supervisors, we need a new administrator.”
One clearly upset parent, Bemie Mills tried to address School Superintendent Dr. Bob Chappell directly, leading Anderson to ask that only the board be addressed which prompted an outburst from Ron Maxwell that the man was being intimidated. Dr. Chappell quietly follow’ed Mills outside to speak with him about his concern.
When it came time for the supervisors to speak, Bryant I.ee said to “give a hand of applause to the School Board" not only for submitting a lower budget, but in raising the schools to such high standards and academic success.
