Going into business with family members is not the easiest thing to do. It can often create strife among relatives. While it isn’t too unusual to find a father and son operating a family business, a mother daughter team is more rare. However, for Betty Hagerman and her daughter April (Hagerman) Wilson it appears to have worked out well -- actually better than they ever imagined.
April says she is a flirty typical native of southwestern Virginia. Her dad, Norman Hagerman, worked in the coal mines, and her mom, Betty, cleaned houses to help with the family income.
Like most natives of the region, Norman and Betty loved their family. With three young daughters to raise, they took every opportunity available to earn a little extra income. Fortunately for the family, Norman had a love of horses and a talent for doing leatherwork.
