Kicking off Saturday’s race card, junior riders will participate in the finals of the springs junior Field Masters’ Chase series championship.
Riders under 18 riding ponies or horses will follow “field master" Gregg Ryan — steeplechasing's all-time leading amateur jockey — around a two-mile course of fences. Competitors must remain behind the field master, just as in a day out foxhunting, and Ryan will control the pace to be safe and sensible.
At a point after the last fence, but well before the finish line, Ryan will release the field.
