According to the two entrepreneurs, there was no place in the area at the time that handled things like coats, tuxedoes or gowns for proms and other events such as weddings.
“People around here were wanting some place they } could get that stuff. They wanted to rent them and they weren’t doing that anywhere in this area at the time,” Wilson said.”lt got to be more than we could handle out of •,
our house. We opened a store in Grundy. The demand was ^ growing for wedding stuff as well as prom stuff."
“Like everybody, we went through good and bad. We had some down times and we’ve had some good ones too," % Betty said. “We made some bad decisions along the way but overall we’ve done pretty good.”
“We took some money and went to Atlanta to the big wedding dress market there. We went in our old pickup and drove down there," Betty said. “Just like the coats, ’ gi we bought a few wedding things. We came back and we did pretty well with them.”
“Yes we did. We came back and did pretty well with the wedding stuff. By then, I had gotten kind of full of myself,” Wilson said. “We opened a store in Bluefield and I moved there to Bluefield (Va.). We did pretty good. At one point we had five stores in the area. But it started to get to be more than we had bargained for, trying to run all of * them. And besides, I guess you could say I started getting i homesick.”
