In a move to provide closer management of the drinking water supplies and sewage treatment plants in planning districts 8. 9 and 16, the State Health Department today opened a regional engineering office in Culpeper.
The office is responsible for plan review, inspection and supervision of the areas’ 120 community water systems. Several noncommunity systems, such as summer camps and highway rest areas, also come under the preview of the Culpeper office.
The public health engineers also share responsibility with the State Water Control Board for the 83 sewage treatment plants in the three planning districts that contain a population of about 1.2 million.
