The marriage of Mist Margaret Averill DeJarnette, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Spencer DeJarnette, of Culpeper, to Douglas Kirkwood Baumgardner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fanning Miles Baumgardner, of Washington, Rappahannock County, took place at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, October 29, 1977, in St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Culpeper.
The Rev. William H. Brake, Jr., minister of ' St. Stephen’s Episcopal church, and The Rev. Jennings Hobson, minister of Trinity Episcopal Church, Washington, officiated at the double ring ceremony. Mrs. Thomas Galloway was organist.
Escorted and given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a formal gown of white peau de soie and Alencon lace. The empire bodice of lace was designed with a portrait neckline and appliqued with pearls and floral iridescents. The long sleeves of English net were also appliqued with pearl embroidered lace medallions. The full skirt with garlands of lace on the front panel, extended into a long circular train. Her veil was a short mantilla of English tulle edged with scalloped lace.
Mrs. Carl Boice Frye, of Blue Ridge School, Dyke, Virginia, sister of the bride, was Matron of Honor. She wore a floor length gown of |loral chintz fashioned with a full skirt falling from an empire waistline and long mandarin style sleeves edged with a border print. She carried a sheaf of watermelon pink carnations.
The bridesmaids were Miss Judith Anne Hendrickson of Richmond, Miss Rosalind Giselle Henson and Mrs. William Hay III, both of Culpeper, Miss Ann Hudson Baumgardner of Washington, sister of the groom; Mrs. Dennis Lee Coppedge of Madison, cousin of the bride; Mrs. Joseph Spencer DeJarnette Jr. of Pratts, sister-in-law of the bride. They wore dresses and carried flowers identical to the honor attendant’s. I Fanning Miles Baumgafjilner was his son’s best man. The groomsmen were Charles M. Havasy of Stafford, Thomas G. Jones IV of Franklin, John M. Baumgardner of Washington, brother of the groom; William E. DeJarnette, Joseph Spencer DeJarnette, Jr., Elliott H. DeJarnette, brothers of the bride. David L. DeJarnette, brother of the bride, served as Acolyte.
Miss Meredith Spencer Frye, niece of the bride, was flower girl and Carl Boice Frye, Jr., her nephew, was ring bearer.
