The Rappahannock Supervisors got some good news and some bad news at last Thursday’s Board meeting as they dealt with routine agenda items. The good news is that the county has received some unexpected—and unbudgeted—money from the federal government and the had news is that another bundle of federal dollars —also unbudgeted—will be less than originally anticipated.
Chairman E. P. Luke told the Supervisors that Rappahannock has received $6,000 in "anti-recessionary funds." He explained that the money is part of a program designed to ease financial pressures brought by unemployment. Localities with unemployment levels above the national average have first priority on the antirecession funds with the remainder prorated to other counties, according to Luke.
He noted that Rappahannock must commit its $6,000 share within 120 days and suggested that the money be put into the school fund in {dace of a transfer from the general fund of the same amount. The Board voted unanimous approval to Luke’s proposal.
