People have been asking if the ERA is such a good thing, then why hasn’t it been ratified yet? In spite of the lobbying efforts of Rosalynn Carter, Betty Ford, 99 per cent of the media, slick lawyers, actors, glib educators and other militants, most observers believe the ERA is finished.
As more people become better informed about the dangers inherent in the ERA legislation, it’s been voted down in state after state. The latest is the state of Florida. Other rejections in the past few months include North Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Mississippi, Arkansas and Nevada. The only state to ratify in 1977 is Indiana. And several states that previously ratified have recently voted to rescind—a question that probably will be settled by the courts.
What are some of the arguments against the ERA? Many point to the possibility that the courts might interpret the Amendment as 'supporting legal marriage for homosexuals and their adopting of children, unisex public restrooms and other effects clearly at variance with the nation’s JudeoChristian traditions.
