Parents of school aged children could play a significant role in reducing a rising tide of public school violence and vandalism, national and state authorities told 500 teachers in Roanoke last weekend, (Nov. 3-5).
Nationwide last year students assaulted 70,000 teachers and far more of their classmates and caused $600 million damage to school property.
Concerned about increasing school crime and more frequent disruptions in the classroom, the Virginia Education Association financed the three-day, indepth instructional symposium to find ways to reduce the current trend.
FBI Director Clarence M. Kelley, keynoting the educators’ conference, said, “Unfortunately, many Americans have a tendency to shelter their children from fthe facts of life.”
