The crime dewinte rate here dropped a percentage point and a half between 1981 and 1982, leaving Rappahannock with the seventh lowest rate for cleared or solved crimes among Virginia’s 95 counties, according to the 1982 edition of Crime in Virginia compiled by the uniform crime reporting section of the Department of State Police.
At the same time, the county’s crime rate continued to go down, dropping from 11.48 per 1,000 in 1981 to 10.83 per 1,000 in 1982. Only 16 counties had a lower rate for crime index offenses in 1982. Crime index offenses are: murder/nonnegligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglai y, larceny and motor vehicle theft.
