The Governor?

Virginia is one of just over a dozen states which still prohibit their governors from succeeding themselves in office. The Old Dominion’s chief executives can serve more than one term, but there must be an intervening gubernatorial term between them.
Tuesday, Jan. 24, was the last day for new legislation to be introduced in the 1984 General Assembly session. One of the measures dropped in the hooper on that last day was a resolution, sponsored by Sen. Edward M. Holland (D-Arlington) which would allow Virginia’s governors to serve two consecutive terms. After that, however, they could not run for governor again.
