Your article last week describing the excellence of the Prospect Heights Middle School in next door Orange County was an appealing and positive story of what makes for success in public education and of what can be done to turn around a school with a bad reputation into an all-out winner. Once again, we see that the principal of the school is the indispensable key to success, as the members of the President’s Commission on Education emphasized; in this case, success equals Paul Coger.
The most, refreshing aspect of the story is that it involves Orange County parents, teachers and children. These are not “aliens” or “martians”, entirely different from us. The parents are not a group of affluent, high level federal employees with PhDs; the children are
