“A bear comes out and bites one ear of com off and they blast that valuable resource,” Sen. Miller says. “The bear do not do any significant damage in that area of the state,” he says, adding that “to this day not one single landowner has called me or told me that they oppose (the bill).” Mr. Miller says the bill is the “only campaign promise I’ve made in terms of legislation. ” 1 Sen. Miller’s personality is a lot like his legislative approach — quiet and low-key. His sister, Diane, and his brother Clinton, a Republican member of the House of Delegates from Woodstock, are both singers. She has been invited to sing at Gov. Charles S. Robb’s yearly party for legislators on the last Friday night of the session. Clint Miller began singing on the Jimmy Dean Show in the 1950s, and paid his way through college that way, his brother recalls. Kevin Miller doesn’t sing professionally, but he says, “I have been known to get carried away and sing at a party.” He may yet put a dent in that conservative image.
