Shenandoah National Park officials recently presented commendations to various area volunteer groups that participated in the October rescue on Old Rag Mountain.
The three day mission covered a 2 Vi square mile (1,700 acres) primary search area on the mountain’s rugged north slope. Park officials say the Blue Ridge Mountain Rescue Group, the Shenandoah Mountain Rescue Group, Dogs East, the Virginia Search Dogs Association, the Madison County Rescue Squad and the U.S. Customs Service contributed more than 1,200 man hours during the 50 hour search.
