The more serious the erosion problem, the more difficult the solution. By the same token, lesser erosion problems generally become big problems if not properly treated, reports Lue Walters, Soil Conservation Official.
Walters explained that many farmers who put off erosion control will face declining yields. Overusing and abusing soil and land are serious national problems which are causing some experts to predict serious food shortages by the end of the 1980’s.
Walters pointed out that all land has some erosion. It is almost impossible to see erosion of less than 3 tons per acre per year. Most Virginia soilg rebuild at a rate of 3 to 5 tons per acre annually.
