In this their first official season as a scheduled basketball squad, the Wakefield Owls have gotten off to a slow but steady start. They have played four games, two each against Shenandoah Valley Academy in Luray and Randolph-Macon Academy in Front Royal.
Though losing all four contests, the scores improved considerably the second time around. Team spirit is high, and dedication is beyond question—while their new gym is under construction, the Owls must practice all but one day per week OUTSIDE, either at the 4-H Ed. Center in Front Royal or the Rappahannock County Park in Washington.
Athletic Director Hunt Harris feels that the team “has come a long way from the fledgling group that used to dodge the support posts for picks at the packing house in Flint Hill where we stated the program three years ago." Harris coached the team for two years before turning over the reins to first year coach Kevin Raney. The school has arranged for the team to have use of an indoor facility in
