On Bessemer Board
In June, 1983, Guest noted, he was appointed to the board of directors for the Bessemer Group, a holding company founded by his great-grandfather which maintains broad investments, including a stock portfolio, emerging “high tech” business, real estate and oil drilling concerns and ocean cargo vessels. “Because of the wide ranging interests and nature (of the Bessemer Group’s investments), I decided I couldn’t serve both (the board of directors and a congressional office).”
The 13 year veteran of Virginia’s House of Delegates said he talked with Congressman Robinson last Tuesday regarding the potential conflict presented by membership on Bessemer’s board of directors and service in Congress and his “loyalty to the commitment I've already made.”
