Jazz Quartet Performs
The John McNeil Quartet, jazz artists, will present a concert on Saturday, February 11, in Goodson Recital Hall at Winchester’s Shenandoah College and Conservatory at 7 p.m. The New York based group features Ron Vincent, drums and Tom Warrington, bass; Bruce Forman, guitar and John McNeil, trumpet.
Noted for his innovative and individualistic style, McNeil’s chief musical influence is the mid60’s period of Miles Davis. McNeil has performed with the Thad Jones / Mel Lewis Orchestra and the Horace Silver Quintet and has toured internationally. He has recorded seven albums on the Steeple Chase label and is the author of a book on trumpet techniques. An Adjunct Professor at the New England Conservatory, in Boston, McNeil is also a composer and jazz clinician.
The other members of the quartet are critically acclaimed musicians with extensive performing, recording, and teaching backgrounds. Together, they offer a variety of musical styles which demonstrate their versatility.
The Jazz department at Shenandoah, in conjunction with the Community Arts Program, is sponsoring the concert. Tickets are $3 for adults and $1 for students.
