These things falling from the sky Tuesday were not V'alentines. Far from it. They were, as Rappahannock residents well know, rain drops. Enough of them to cause some powerful destructive forces.
Lee and Connie Keyser of Washington woke to find their back basement wall caved in. They and their neighbors s|>ent the morning standing under torrents of rain and shoveling the mud out of the way to assess the extent of the damage.
By noon Rappahannock’s highway's maintenance crews had compiled quite a list of flooded bridges and hollows where no one would hazard to drive. They had closed Route t>22 between b2S and fi22 in Harris Hollow. Routes »>12, »>1K, all of Rock Mills, Route »>21 between 522 and (>20, Route *>25 to the dead end at <>22. ♦>44 in Slate Mills and Route H00. That was so far. Workers were posting as fast as they could with what signs they had.
