We congratulate the new representative from Stonewall-Hawthorne District on his first independent action since joining the supervisors in January. Nelson Lane made an excellent choice in his nomination of Bill Oliver to the Rappahannock County School Board.
Lane asked for suggestions from his constitutents and then he listened to those suggestions. From those who contacted the new supervisor, we hear again and again that Oliver’s name was at or near the top of their lists.
A majority of our School Board members now have children in the county’s public schools. It’s about time. Parents with children in classes at the elementary school and high school can see first hand what their sons and daughters are learning by checking homework, reading book reports or simply discussing ideas at the dinner table.
