In the statement announcing his candidacy, Hobgood said he is resigning as the congressman’s aide in order to make the race for the GOP nomination. He noted that his duties as congressional district assistant enabled him to know thousands of constituents and their problems and to help with those problems.
Hobgood added that he was also in regular contact with scores of government offices and agencies. “I know of no other activity, even elective office, that offers such diverse and pertinent experience for a candidate," he said.
