If it s time for the Kappahannock Hunt’s point-topoint races, can spring be far behind?
Plans are moving from a trot into a gallop for the annual event that signals the upcoming return of warmer temperatures. In Rappahannock, the first harbinger of spring is not the sighting of the robin but rather a glimpse of crews rebuilding the jumps at the Thornton Hill Farm course on Route 522 between Woodville and Sperryville. And according to race committee chairman Dave Carter, that work has already begun.
The races are set to go off on Saturday, March 3, beginning with the pairs’ race at 10:30. The card includes eight steeplechases and the famous Rappahannock hound race, the only one of its kind on the pointto-point circuit.
