the first weekend in March, Carter chuckled. “I’m scared to look at it! Seriously, why worry about whether it’s going to be cold or cloudy or windy? We have Casanova the week before and Blue Ridge the week behind us. W'e’ll only cancel if it’s going to be unsafe for the horses, if it’s just rained or snowed. There have to be adverse conditions.
“No sense worrying about it now, anyway. The race committee makes the decision the day before, on Friday. And we try to run,” Carter said.
For those who don’t bring their tailgate picnics from home, food and beverages will be sold on the grounds. General admission is $2.50 with children under 12 admitted free; parking is $3.
