The cold snap that sent thermometers plummeting to record lows this January pushed fuel expenses up to near record highs.
Customers of Rappahannock Electric Cooperative were surprised with bills that ranged from 25 percent to 400 percent more than the same month in 10X2, according to REC’s Frances Updike. "The increase depended upon the type of heating system the individual has. The largest increases came with electric furnaces," he noted.
