Once town officials finish reviewing the draft, it will be sent to the Rappahannock Planning Commission (which also serves as Planning Commission for the town) for approval and then back to the Town Council for public hearing.

Bruce asked whether council has a time frame for adopting the new ordinance.

“I’m available three to four nights a week to work on it,” answered Miller.

If the ordinance is ready to forward to the Planning Commission within a week, it could be advertised for the March agenda, Bruce pointed out. If the new ordinance could be adopted by mid-April, it might be possible for the church to meet its spring starting date, she added.

Miller and Sutherland planned to meet with Baumgardner on Friday to discuss review requirements on the church request.

Baumgardner said it would speed the process of adopting a new ordinance if the Town Council could schedule joint meetings with the Planning Commission. The new ordinance might be in force within 60 days at the earliest, he said. That would allow time for proper public notice of the hearings.
