The Wakefield basketball teams hit the road again Last week and ran into some stiff competition along the way.
On Tuesday, the JV Hooters dropped their closest contest to date to a well disciplined Woodberry Forest team. The first half was a see-saw battle, with the sharp shooting of Brian Dotzler and Jordan Bentley and strong rebounding of Louis Poove keeping the young Tigers at bay. In the second half, however, the more experienced squad from Wood berry pulled away.
Wednesday afternoon found both varsity and JV teams in Maryland facing the St. James Saints. After a runaway victory for the host JV squad in the opening contest, the varsity opponents took the floor. The taller, stronger St. James team proved too tough. Wakefield’s starting center and co-captain John Piper was out with the flu and his presence wras missed at both ends of the court. Russell Rowzie led the Owls in scoring and David Fawcett led in rebounding in the losing effort.
