elementary and high school buildings were both closed at 8:45 a.m. Administrators had thought around six o’clock that classes could still be held, he said, but some of the drivers saw that the back roads were not passable. Some of the drivers simply turned around and returned the children to their homes. Administrators were able to catch others before they started out, Estabrook said. Half a dozen buses made it to school, the superintendent added, only to be “gassed up and sent back." By mid-morning, all the drivers had called in and reported the- students returned -safely to their homes, according to Estabrook. School had closed early in surrounding counties as well. The school board meeting scheduled for Tuesday was postponed until Thursday.
